With their first release since 2019, Finding Aurora sweep up Single of the Week
We last heard from Finding Aurora in 2019, when corona was just a beer and the band were a trio. Now a four-piece with the addition of guitarist Lloyd Flower, the Newport rockers are back and better than ever with new single ‘The Last Call’.
A surefire rock anthem, ‘The Last Call’ is the sort of track that embeds itself in your head straight away – it’s got a radio-friendly sound but never sounds generic or formulaic; it’s definitely Finding Aurora.
It’s just as easy to imagine the band playing it live in front of a sweaty pit at Clwb Ifor Bach or Le Pub as it is to picture it being played on Soccer AM – no small feat.
It’s likely no coincidence that with the addition of a fourth member, Finding Aurora have dropped perhaps their most polished release yet. A relentless assault on the senses, personal lyrics about moving on from toxic people are combined with full-throttle guitar and drums. Actions speak louder than words, and if this is what moving on from toxic people sounds like, it was definitely the right decision to bin them off.
We might have had to wait a year for more from the South Wales lads, but it’s been worth it. It’s been great to see their evolution over the past couple of years, and if ‘The Last Call’ is anything to go by, there’s still a lot more to come.
‘I’m a music and culture journalist currently based in the West Midlands. Always on the lookout for up-and-coming artists but my favourite bands include IDLES and Arctic Monkeys. Probably last seen at a gig.
