John Myrtle releases first track since 2019, ‘Get Herr Off My Mind’
If John Myrtle’s music was a season I’d say it would be summer, not the days when it’s too hot though. It’s the one where it’s just the right amount of sunshine, combined with that nice breeze. His music “feels” warm, cozy, and somewhat familiar even if it’s your first time listening to it. Which is something that he’s been consistently creating.
The bass player turned songwriter/singer’s latest, “Get Her Off My Mind”, recorded in his own bedroom using a vintage tape recorder, will be released on the 17th of February 2021 following his debut EP simply titled, “Here’s John Myrtle” from 2019.
With the Beach Boys-esque sound that he does so well, John makes the inability to get someone out of your head sound less frustrating — “love is such a curse” indeed — and more endearing, a problem that you actually don’t mind having, with the head-bopping guitar and subtle drums wrapped in his light yet significant vocals.
“This song was written a long time ago and has stayed with me throughout the years so to finally give it a release is both exciting and relieving! I remember I was listening to a lot of The Beach Boys at the time, and just a lot of classic 60s pop which I guess is what I listen to anyway. Here though, I wanted to do a song that was just a very simple, catchy 3-minute pop song, like a Monkees track or something!”
This song can easily keep playing in your head even when you’re not listening to it.
