Glaswegian solo artist Alex Amor stops by and takes on the 10 questions!
What age did you start writing music and with what instrument?
I wrote my first song from thin air. It was in C major (with the obvious 4 chords) and once it was written I had to get someone to accompany me on guitar. I then learnt basic guitar and piano after that to help with my songwriting.
Where is your hometown, and give us a reason/fact why we should visit it?
Glasgow has the most down to earth, funny people on this planet. Or as we say, ‘we’re all sound as f**k’
What encouraged you to want to get into music?
I played the flute and had singing lessons in school but I‘ve always had an intense fascination with songwriting. It has always been inside of me to be a singer / writer, ever since I can remember.
Best venue you’ve ever played and why?
I’ve played Oran Mor in Glasgow which is a great venue. It’s in a renovated church and I’ve also watched some of my favourite shows there.
One band/artist you’d love to support?
Joesef! Lana Del Rey, Kali Uchis
What’s the greatest love song ever written?
This is the easiest question to answer. ‘And I Love You So’ by Don Maclean. I great every time I listen to it.
The best album that you’ve heard this year?
HAIM ‘Women In Music Pt. III’ and Jessie Ware’s ‘What’s Your Pleasure?’
Most underrated band/artist of all time?
Donnie & Joe Emerson – their album got discovered decades after it was made. The album has become a cult classic now, but they were almost completely overlooked at the time.
Which three artists/bands should we be looking out for? (Musically, not for Criminal Offences)
Joesef – Scottish soulful alternative pop. Absolutely dreamy stuff.
Flyte – a band with SO much potential. Amazing songwriters
Aquilo – their next album is going to so good if it’s anything like their recent EP
What do you want to accomplish next as a band/artist?
To be coherent throughout my next record and to be as honest as possible. To create music that connects I guess.
Bonus Question – Favourite vegetable and why!?
Aubergine – no explanation needed. It’s obviously the best.
