Find out about Chester indie band Muddy Elephant as they answer 10 questions!

Where did the band name come from?

It’s not very rock and roll but there is a grade 2 listed stone elephant in my (sam’s) garden, we were brainstorming ideas and we came up with stone elephants but we thought that sounded too much like the stone roses (of which we sound nothing like) and so Muddy Elephant was born.

Where is your hometown, and give us a reason/fact why we should visit it?

Our hometown is Chester, although Andy is from Warrington. Most people would say come for the Chester City Walls, but I’d say come for the Hanky Panky Pancakes.

What encouraged you to want to get into music?

I’ve always loved music from the moment I first picked up my guitar in year 4 at school and joined the choir, it’s my biggest passion in life. My Taid (grandad) was one of my biggest influences and I wish he was with us today to see how much we’ve done.

Best venue you’ve ever played and why?

The Deaf Institute in Manchester. It’s such an awesome venue, the vibe of the place, the atmosphere, everyones packed but theres enough space, and the way the stage is positioned really helps you get in the mood.

One band/artist you’d love to support?

Foo Fighters

What’s the greatest love song ever written?

Everlong

The best album that you’ve heard this year?

For me this year, it’s got to be Moral Panic by Nothing But Thieves.

Most underrated band/artist of all time?

Sea Girls

Which three artists/bands should we be looking out for? (Musically, not for Criminal Offences)

Abi Rose Kelly, Strangers, Larkins

What do you want to accomplish next as a band/artist?

We have a plan for our releases over the next year. We’re hoping to secure some support slots with bigger bands to expand our fanbase and hopefully a big headline towards the end of the year.

Bonus Question – Favourite vegetable and why!?

Not a huge fan of veg but it would have to be cauliflower (cheese) or roasted but mainly with (vegan) cheese on coz lets be honest its the only way to make veg taste nice.
