Reading and Leeds fail to represent female musicians once again
Earlier this weel the Reading and Leeds lineup was released and it has caused uproar on the internet… and rightly so!
The organisers of festival have introduced a new system this year, 2 main stages, 6 headliners across the whole weekend, no clashes, however, the announced headliners have caused some controversy.
The 6 headliners are Catfish and the Bottlemen, Post Malone, Stormzy, Liam Gallagher, Disclosure and Queens of the stone age. 6 headliners and not a single woman.
People have already taken to twitter to point out what the festival has done wrong, including Lucy McCourt.
Now, Lucy gained a fair bit of traction last year when she began removing all exclusively male acts from festival line up posters, Reading and Leeds being the one that was incredibly unequal last year. She was quick to take to her social media last night with her edit, revealing that the male split is 10 to 8 females, with not a single female headlining, out of an increased 6 slots.
There are many huge fantastic female acts around the world that should be given the chance to headline huge festivals but it is really disappointing that Reading and Leeds have not given a single female the chance this year.
We can only hope that next year is better, that the organisers hear what is being said to them and improve the festival for their fans.
