RAE’s first track takes Single of the Week!
It could not, in any capacity, have been easy to pull of what RAE have pulled off during lockdown. Keeping their finger on the creative pulse and returning to the scene with a brand new band, they’ve brought ‘Never Meant To Start A Witch Hunt’ as their outrageously good debut single.
We’ve missed music like this in 2020. RAE’s sound has all the charisma of a successful stint in the indie business, with the smooth correlation of a band who know the best is yet to come. This track knows it sounds good. There’s a cohesion between clever backing vocals ready to fill stadiums corresponding perfectly with the band music of our underground dreams.
Jess Huxham’s vocals are perfectly smooth, and speak volumes of the dedication and relentless work put into making RAE one of the most important bands to come out of Leeds this year. This track demands your attention with fearless composition of heavy, pop-punk drums and more sound delivery than we thought we deserved.
We sort of want to be best friends with this song, too. There are overtones and undertones smoother than feminism infused caramel leaving each listener feel… well, pretty bloody brilliant.
If you stream anything this week (and please do, support our indies) it has to be ‘Never Meant To Start a Witch Hunt.
And THAT is how you end a track, btw.

Music loving Geordie with a soft spot for cassettes and vinyl.
If you’re in an unsigned band, I’m probably your biggest fan.
Mid-twenties (so, 100 in gig-going years).
