‘Extra-terrestrial’ Band Henge Drop New Track ‘Demilitarise’
First of all, Henge
‘Demilitarise’ is the latest single to be released from debut album Attention Earth!. It’s a sprawling aural expedition, based around the refrain “We demand/That the weapons of war/Are manufactured no more/Demilitarise”. It may then be unsurprisng to know that it’s a tribute to the late Professor Stephen Hawking, who suggested that the human race will need to colonise other planets to preserve the future of the species.
‘Demilitarise’ clocks in at around nine minutes altogether. Sure, it’s lengthy, but it’s more than sufficiently captivating. It gets more intense as it goes on, inviting an absorbing instrumental section in the second half of the track.
Above all, it’s convenient that we have the ready-made ‘Cosmic Dross’ label to describe their music; it’s difficult to convey just what ‘Demilitarise’ is like using conventional genre terminology. As a result of its hypnotic chanted vocals and bewitching synths, it’s unlike pretty much anything that’s around today. Art pop? Space rock? Neo-psychedelia? Certainly, no established label can do it justice.
With the album out late last year, and an upcoming tour, 2019 looks to be promising for Henge.

‘I’m a music and culture journalist currently based in the West Midlands. Always on the lookout for up-and-coming artists but my favourite bands include IDLES and Arctic Monkeys. Probably last seen at a gig.
