Spielbergs – ‘This is Not The End’ | Album Review

Spielbergs show potential with their Debut Album

This Is Not The End is the highly anticipated debut album from Spielbergs, following their very well-received ‘Distant Star’ EP. It is a 12 track LP which is perfect for you if you love guitar-rock..in particular, LOUD guitar rock.

In case you’re wondering who The Spielbergs are, they are: Mads Baklien (guitar, vocals, synth), Stian Brennskag (bass) and Christian Løvhaug (drums).

The opening track, ‘Five On It‘, is the opening track but you aren’t eased into the band’s sound. Oh no, you are hit with the full force of their energy. ‘Distant Star‘ is also a great track, which this album isn’t short of. It is a song that perfectly encapsulates teenage angst “We could be perfect/ and we could be soulmates.

There are tracks with very interesting names, such as ‘NFL‘, ‘We Are All Going To Die‘ and ‘ McDonalds (Please Don’t Fuck Up My Order)‘. Interestingly, ‘McDonalds…’ is an instrumental, for the most part. Their less than ideal experience actually makes for good listening.

Familiar‘ breaks up the album a little and is one of the more calmer tracks on the album. It almost has a bit of a space age feel to it (especially in the beginning). Also, for some reason it reminds me a little of ‘Champagne Supernova‘ by Oasis.

Bad Friend‘ is one of our favourites from the album. It also happens to be one of the more ‘pop-ier’ tracks on the record with catchy beats and repetitive lyrics. ‘4AM‘ is another one of our favourites. It is the lead single from the album and the passionate track makes for a great introduction to the band.

‘This Is Not The End’ is a great album and a very strong debut.
