Calva Louise End the Year in glory as they Release ‘Tug of War’
Accompanied by an excellent video, Bubble Gum Rock trio Calva Louise have shared ‘Tug of War’ – the latest single from their highly anticipated forthcoming Debut LP ‘Rhinoceros’ which is set for release on 1st February 2019 via Modern Sky UK.
Tug of War is Jess Allanic’s finest vocal performance to date. Mixed with silky, idiosyncratic guitar playing, an imposing rhythm section, and yet another infectious chorus, the single is an impressive addiction to their expanding catalogue. Their sound is playful yet aggressive, and bears no immediate similarities to other artists – a rare thing in today’s industry.
The track was recorded and produced by Margo Broom (Fat White Family, Goat Girl) and has quite rightly picked up airplay on stations such as BBC Radio 1, Radio X, and BBC 6 Music.
Discussing the video (which was directed by Bartholomew Jones) the band say “We feel like in any kind of relationship there are unwritten rules everybody should follow, and that becomes a constant tug of war, dealing with unnecessary pressure. If everybody could have a complimentary point of view, then that tug of war could be a fun game where there are no set rules”.
Jess, Ben and Alizon are also fast developing a reputation as a raucous live act, earning tour support slots with Albert Hammond Jr, Spring King, and label mates The Blinders. After seeing them live at The Lending Room in Leeds, I can confirm that they are as superb live, if not better, than they are on record.
Stuck on what to buy a mate for Christmas? I’d suggest a ticket to their tour next year, whilst they are still playing small venues, because they won’t be for much longer!
