Over the weekend we got the chance to speak to The Orielles an awesome surf-garage pop band from Liverpool, a band that we’ve been keeping an eye on for a while so it was great to get this chance!
1)First things first how did you come to be?
Esme and Sidonie are sisters and both met Henry at a house party a couple of years ago
2)What genre of music would you say you play?
We play surf-garage pop I’d say, but we listen to a huge range of different genres so we never like tying it down to one specific genre.
3) Which bands/artists do you take influences from?
We take influence from tonnes of different bands, anything from Sonic Youth, pixies and Pavement to the Beach Boys.
4) Best venue you’ve ever played and why?
Hornsey Town Hall in Crouch End, London was a really gorgeous building and we even came up with a screenplay idea whilst we were waiting around and exploring the venue, haha!
5) Best gig you’ve ever attended?
Probably Mild High Club and Aldous RH at Gullivers in Manchester – both sick bands and they were absolutely amazing live
6) A band you would most like to support and why?
Whitney, Mild High Club, King Gizzard just because they’re all sick bands
7) A band that you would like to work with?
Fred Armisen because he’s a killer musician and would also make us crease all the time
8) Top five albums you’ve ever heard?
In no particular order: pixies-Doolittle, Sonic Youth-Daydream Nation, Beach Boys-Pet Sounds, Donnie and Joe Emerson-Dreamin Wild, Steely Dan-Pretzel Logic
9) Biggest accomplishment as a band/solo artist?
Getting funding to take us to Canadian Music Week felt like a huge accomplishment!
10) What’s next in the pipeline?
Hopefully gonna be recording an album over the next few months so we’ll see what happens with that!
